Uwchlan Ambulance Corps News Articles http://www.station87.com/apps/public/rss News articles published on station87.com using RSS 2.0 Wed, 08 Feb 2012 10:48:51 GMT Paoli Hospital launches Yellow Dot Program http://www.station87.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=63 The Yellow Dot Program is the first of its kind in the state of Pennsylvania. Having enjoyed great success in several states, Paoli Hospital is leading an initiative to offer the Program to the residents of Chester County and its surrounding areas. The Yellow Dot Program is designed to assist Chester County drivers and passengers as well as police, fire and emergency medical personnel in the event of a motor vehicle collision or other medical emergency. By improving communications during the critical "golden hour" when victims may be unable to communicate for themselves, the Yellow Dot Program can help save lives. The Yellow Dot Program provides detailed medical information that can be crucial following a collision. Drivers and passengers who participate in the Program receive a Yellow Dot Program Packet, which includes: • Yellow Dot sticker • Glove compartment folder • Medical information form (documents participant name(s), emergency and physician contact information, medical conditions, recent surgeries, allergies and prescribed medications. Space is available for identifying photo.) For consistency and ease of identification, the Yellow Dot sticker is placed on the left side of the vehicle's rear window. This sticker alerts first responders that the corresponding Yellow Dot Program folder with participant information form(s) is inside the glove compartment of the vehicle. Armed with this information, first responders and emergency departments are able to positively identify the victim, call family or emergency contacts and ensure that a participant's current medications and pre-existing medical conditions are considered upon treatment of injuries. Paoli Hospital, an entity of Main Line Health, is proud to sponsor the Yellow Dot Program. It is a collective effort of local law enforcement agencies, fire and rescue departments, emergency medical services, hospitals and community members, which is administered by the Injury Prevention and Outreach Program of the Trauma Center at Paoli Hospital. This service is offered to individuals of all ages and is primarily geared toward senior citizens. For more information, please visit us at mainlinehealth.org/trauma. To request a Yellow Dot packet, please call 1.866.CALL.MLH. Fri, 02 Sep 2011 22:24:35 GMT http://www.station87.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=57 We Survived Hurricane Irene! http://www.station87.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=56 Chester County took a hit from Irene but it was less of a hit then expected. In the central part of the county we received over 7 inches of rainfall in less then 24 hours. This rain caused many areas to have heavy flooding. Thousands of families lost power and are still without it at this hour. PECO is working hard to restore everyone but it will still take some time. During the hurricane, Uwchlan Ambulance Corps staffed all four ambulances and were ready to respond to anything. In addition to the routine medical calls, crews responded to accidents and water rescues. Many thanks to all the crews who left their homes and their families to help out the community. Do you have any pictures from the hurricane that you want to share with us? If so, send them to pictures@station87.com and we will add them to this story! Make sure to include a brief description of the picture. Tue, 30 Aug 2011 05:53:35 GMT http://www.station87.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=56 Hurricane Safety Tips http://www.station87.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=54 Luckily we can't say this very often but it looks like we may have a hurricane this weekend! Hurricane Irene is predicted to be affecting our area starting sometime Saturday through Sunday night. While the exact path of the storm is still unknown, it is still important to be prepared for anything. Here are few tips to keep in mind. Before a Hurricane: - Create an evacuation plan with your family in the event that a disaster is imminent; learn location of emergency shelters in your area. - Check your property's exterior: secure lawn furniture, make sure shrubs are trimmed. - Remove debris from any rain gutters or spouts. - Make sure your vehicles have plenty of fuel. - Should you not need to evacuate your home for the duration of the hurricane, plan to keep canned food, bottled water, first-aid supplies, battery-operated radios and flashlights on hand. When the Hurricane Hits: - Listen to the TV and/or radio to track bulletins and updates; follow the directions of authorities if an evacuation is mandated. - If asked to do so by authorities, turn off utilities including water, electricity and propane tanks. - Stay indoors at all times, close interior doors, secure exterior doors. - Stay away from any windows. Find a room without windows, and take shelter there. If that is not possible, go into a closet. After a Hurricane: - Be aware of new safety issues created by the disaster. Watch for washed out roads, contaminated buildings, contaminated water, gas leaks, broken glass, damaged electrical wiring, and slippery floors. - Inform local authorities about health and safety issues, including chemical spills, downed power lines, washed out roads, smoldering insulation, and dead animals. Regardless of what path Hurricane Irene takes we will undoubtedly get a significant amount of rain and flash flooding may occur. Always keep these tips in mind! - Flash floods can come rapidly and unexpectedly. They can occur within a few minutes or hours of excessive rainfall, or when a dam or levee fails and even a sudden release of water held by an ice or debris jam. Be cautious during storm seasons, or any time that flooding is common in your area. - You may not have warning that a flash flood is approaching. - Do not drive unless absolutely necessary. - Do not drive through flooded areas. If you see a flooded-out road ahead, turn around. Find another route to your destination. - If there is no other route, get to higher ground and wait for the waters to subside. - Even if the water appears shallow enough to cross, don't try it. Water hides dips in the road. Worse yet, there may be no road at all under the water. Flooding can scour away the entire road surface and a significant amount of ground beneath. - If your car stalls, abandon it immediately and climb to higher ground. - Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control or possible stalling. - One foot of water will float almost many vehicles. - Two feet of rushing water can sweep away most vehicles — including SUVs and pick-ups. Good luck and stay dry!!
