Why Join the Juniors Program?

UAC’s Juniors Program invites participants aged 14-18 to gain real-world exposure to emergency medical services and pre-professional training.

It offers a safe, structured environment where you can build leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and familiarity with EMS operations.

The program provides monthly ride-along opportunities with the ambulance crew, giving you hands-on insight into community response and patient care.

Who Can Participate?
We welcome young adults who:

Are between 14 and 18 years old

Are enrolled in school and meet basic academic/attendance standards

Are reliable, enthusiastic, and ready to commit to monthly shifts and training

Demonstrate strong communication skills, a willingness to learn, and a safety-first mindset

Have parental or guardian permission to participate
What You’ll Do
As a Juniors Program member you will:

Attend our orientation and basic EMS introduction covering patient care fundamentals, scene safety, and ambulance operations.

Join monthly ride-along shifts with UAC crews to observe and assist under supervision.

Participate in quarterly training drills and workshops (e.g., first aid, CPR, vehicle operations, community outreach).

Serve as a community ambassador: help with public-education events, station tours, and outreach to younger students.

Receive mentorship from experienced EMTs and paramedics, with opportunities to progress into full volunteer status when eligible.
Training & Development Path

Initial orientation and training are free for accepted juniors—no prior EMS certification required.

Ride-along experience will build familiarity with the EMS environment, response protocols, patient handling (observation) and teamwork.

Juniors who complete the program and meet departmental standards may be invited to apply for full volunteer membership upon reaching age and certification eligibility (per UAC policy).

Program aligns with best practices for junior firefighter/EMS recruitment and youth development.

How to Join

Submit a completed Juniors Program application form.

Provide a brief personal statement (why you’re interested) and a reference (teacher, coach or community leader).

Attend a Junior Information Session (dates posted quarterly).

Undergo interview, parental/guardian approval, and health/safety screening.

Once accepted, start orientation and training in the next cohort.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need medical experience?
No prior EMS or medical experience is required. Training is provided for all accepted juniors.
How much time do I commit?
Expect monthly ride-along shifts (typically 4-8 hours) plus quarterly drills. Our scheduling accommodates school and extracurricular commitments.
Will I respond to emergency calls?
As a junior member you accompany crews as an observer and assisting team-member under supervision. You will not perform unsupervised patient-care activities beyond your training and scope.
Does participation cost anything?
No. The Juniors Program is provided at no cost to participants.
